Group Classes
I provide group classes, as does my mentor, Lennox Gavin of Paws-a-tive Results Dog Training, through the Cumming Petco, located on Market Place Boulevard between Best Buys and Ashley Furniture.
We have classes starting almost every week in Puppy Manners for puppies 6 months old and younger and Beginning Obedience for pups and dogs older than 6 months. We also offer classes for Canine Good Citizen training and testing, Intermediate Obedience for dogs who have completed one of the starter classes, and Tricks Class for those who want to use their behavior skills to amaze and impress friends and family. Private classes can also be scheduled at Petco. Only Positive Reinforcement methods are used in Petco Training Classes.
Please feel free to come by the store and check out our calendar and perhaps catch a class in action. A free puppy social hour occurs every Tuesday night from 6-7 PM for puppies 6 months and younger. Please bring a copy of the vaccination records at the first visit. Visitors are always welcome at Petco, where the pets go
Other Services
Not everyone has the time or desire to go outside their home to group classes. Public group sessions have a fixed class day and time that are on a set schedule. I bring class to you, at your home at a time and day that fits your schedule, with a curriculum that is flexible to fit your needs.
Working in your home also has the added benefit of training in a familiar environment with fewer (or at least familiar) distractions for you and your dog, which makes learning easier on you both. The home is a frequent site for problem behaviors which are more easily addressed at the “scene of the crime.” Coming to your home also allows me to better assist you in developing “environmental management” techniques to address problem behaviors.
During the initial in-home consultation, I ask that all family (or household) members that can attend be there. Getting everyone’s input at the beginning helps me get a better understanding of the particular dynamics of your dog’s environment.
We will discuss the behaviors you want your dog to do as well as any behaviors you may want your dog to STOP doing. You will tell me the ways in which you want to have more canine fun, and together we will formulate a plan to accomplish those goals. We will discuss training methods, equipment, exercise, practice requirements, behavior and environment management and the commitment you will need to make to ensure success. The initial consultation takes approximately an hour to an hour and a half.
